Once upon a time, I was a tomboy with forever skinned knees and a love for getting lost in the faraway lands of whatever book I had borrowed from the library. I spent my summers in the woods with my sister, fishing with my granddaddy, and daydreaming of writing books for kids or planning huge events for businesses. Never in a million years did I picture myself as a homeschooler.
Fast forward a few decades as I sit here awkwardly writing about myself in a small house in Pennsylvania with a six month old puppy asleep on my lap. My high school sweetheart is working from home in our basement and our three sweet homeschoolers are upstairs playing an epic round of their favorite board game. Life may be pretty different than I imagined, but it's perfect and shaped so much by my own experiences in a non-traditional and very hands on program I participated in through middle school.
Our homeschool is all about doing life together. Some days are a struggle and others are filled with wonder and curiosity. But what makes me happy is spending my days learning alongside them. We spend our days learning and with plenty of extra time to learn to bake new breads, explore the life of the author of a book we're reading, or planning and planting our backyard garden.
I hope you'll find encouragement in your own homeschooling journey here. Homeschooling is beautiful because there is no perfect way to do it and you have the freedom to create a learning environment that is tailored to your family. My goal with Dear Homeschool Mom is to help you embrace the creativity and flexibility you have in fostering a love of learning with your own kids!
